Many people see Facebook Group as communities, but fail to realize it is actually a lead generation and list building strategy.
Facebook Groups is a way I have been building an email list for years.
It starts with Dot Com Truths Facebook Group.
Expanded to Systeme.io Tech tutorials Facebook Group.
And is a strategy I will continue to use as it has several benefits such as Facebook SEO and Community building.
With Facebook Groups, you can ask questions before letting people join.
One of those questions would be something like:
"Would you like to receive XYZ [insert lead magnet title]? If so, enter your email address."
When they answer, you can then subscribe them to your list.
(Make sure your question makes it clear that they are being subscribed as per GDPR and email regulations)
Now that they enter the questions, how do they actually get the lead magnet and get added to your list?
That is what this checklist is all about.
To walk you through step-by-step the tech set up so it is a relatively automated process vs manual task.
To get started, here is a video tutorial on the automation process, and following that is a checklist to implement the steps and check things off as you go.
1) Create a TAG on Systeme.io
Click on Create > new tag > name> save.
2)Create a New Group in Group Collector
Click on Add a New Group > name
Go to FB Group > copy and paste the group’s URL.
Click Create Group.
3) Create a Google Sheet in the Group Collector
Click on the ‘Add’ option
Make a copy of the Google Sheet you created from the Group Collector > name > save.
Copy and paste the URL of the duplicated Google Sheets
“Update Sheet and authenticate your Google Account"
Choose the right Google Account for your “sign-in”.
4) Add Autoresponder to the Group Collector
Select autoresponder
Insert the API key
How to generate the API Key or token on Systeme.io
Login into your Systeme.io account > Profile > Settings > Public API Keys
Click on the Create button- usually in blue colour for new tokens > name > use it immediately after creating.
Return to the Group Collector
Copy the newly generated API key from Systeme.io and insert it into the available space on the Group Collector
Copy the FB Group Tag name from Systeme.io and insert it into the “Exact Tag Name” space.
Click on “verify and update”
5) Set “Auto Approve or decline” in the Group Collector.
Click on Add > Edit> Turn on the “auto approve” button > Select the rules.
Turn on the “auto-decline” button for blocked, suspended accounts or locked profiles.
"Update auto-approve and decline settings".
6) Set Up the Workflow Automation
Go to Systeme.io and copy the group name from "Tag"
Select automation from the homepage > Workflows > Rules >Save.
Add a Tag (Tag Added) > Create Trigger > Tag Name > Create.
Click on Action e.g. send an email. You can choose from templates or create a new one. Insert appropriate links to the email.
Format> Edit> Save or Send the email> Activate > Confirm
7) Live Testing the Group Collector and Systeme.io Integration.
Go back to the Facebook Group > From options on the left, click “Participant Requests”
Click on GC approve. For new members who entered their email, copy their mail
Go to Systeme.io and search for the contact. It will show the person has been added and tagged to a Workflow.
It is also the same result when you search for ‘courses’. The email of the new member will reflect that access has been granted.
Note: If the email is missing, you can manually ban the member from gaining access to the FB Group or Bonuses.
You can also approve from the phone or refresh and quickly click on "GC approve" before the Chrome Extension finishes loading. That way it doesn't go to the Google Sheet to cause errors.
This update will also reflect on the Google Sheet you created from the Group Collector. That way, you can confirm changes on Systeme.io and the Google Sheet.
The Group Collector is currently available on AppSumo for $79 for a limited time.
However, you can always get it at a reduced cost through the partnership program in case the AppSumo deal is not available.
The button below will take you to the most up to date and best offer available.
When I personally approve people, I also try to set a message on Messenger.
(Note that these messages are more or less what I email people as a welcome email too)
I have these messages automated using TextBlaze.
If you are not using TextBlaze in your business, I strongly recommend you check the Text Automations Workshop.
(You should have access to this in your private members area)
Here are the messages I have set up with TextBlaze for my groups:
With Dot Com Truths Group, I require people to submit an email address (i.e. without them entering an email address, they don't get access).
The lead magnet I offer is a free course called "Starting an online business Mini-Course" and this automatically get triggered with access as soon as they join the FB group as well.
The message I send them when they are approved:
"I’ve approved your access to the Dot Com Truths FB group.
Here is a short video explaining how to get started.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yk_vTOXMDcE
(Oh, and if you’re not subscribed to my channel, please do so)
Otherwise, you can just go ahead and join and check it out now.
See you on the inside!
Eran Bucai"
The message I send them if they fail to provide an email address:
"Hey!
I noticed you requested to join my Facebook Group, Dot Com Truths Group.
Thanks for that!
Unfortunately, I have set up an automation where if someone doesn't answer the questions to enter, it automatically rejects them...
If you do want to join, please do answer those questions (specifically the email one).
The other side of the automation is that you'll be sent an email with some goodies (within the hour).
If you do want to join, this is the link:
www.dotcomtruthsgroup.com
Eran"
This group is open and I do not require an email address to get access, but I do ask for it.
Whether they provide an email address or not, they get the same message except for the last sentence.
The last sentence is deleted before sending in case they provided me with an email address.
Message when they are approved to join
"Thanks for joining my FB group for systeme.io tech tutorials.
A couple of resources to help you:

= 30 minutes onboarding to Systeme.io

And also,
if you are on the free plan, wanted to share with you the bonuses I offer in case you decide to upgrade to the paid plan at some point:
Love to hear more about you and your business or idea for business
Feel free to share
Eran
PS - if you submitted an email address when joining the group, you would have received a more detailed welcome email from contact@eranbucai.com
Reply with your email address if you want that also..."
To give you a final recap, I think it is important to note that I love this particular lead generation strategy because it is a multi-channel strategy.
Here is why:
Someone joins my FB group (1).
They are now in MY group to share content, promote, market to, etc.
Someone provides their email address (2).
They are now on my email list to promote, share value, etc.
That person got a welcome message from me on Messenger (3).
This can potentially begin a conversation.
I can ask them more about who they are, what they do, and see where the conversation takes us.
In that same message, I give them a welcome video which is hosted on YouTube, or a playlist to a YouTube playlist I have.
Now I have a new YouTube subscriber (4).
FOUR channels to add value to this person.
