What is a 404 error page and why you need it?

A 404 error page is a type of page that will come up every time someone mistypes the URL or your website or if you accidentally link the wrong URL.

That way, you can set it up as some sort of funnel to send people back to the home page or be a bit more clever about it and use it as a way to drive them to another funnel.

In my tutorial, I show how I set it up in a way that in case someone ends up on it who doesn't know me at all, I use that page to build some trust and use that to deliver a message in case this is a stranger.

Here is a step-by-step checklist for creating a 404 error page:

  • Click on "settings" on the top right of your page, on your profile image

  • On the left menu, click on "custom domains"

  • Go to the domain name that you want to customize a 404 page on, and click on the 3 dots on the right

  • You'll see a "settings" button after clicking the 3 dots. Click on that.

  • Then you'll see a "custom 404 page" button. Click on it and it will take you to the editor of the 404 page.

  • As a minimum, put your domain name home page linked in the button there so that people who land on a 404 error page can find their way back to the home page.

  • Optional: If you want to take this a step further, use my template/s or create your own based on inspiration as explained in the tutorial above
